At the end of this month, Jo Low will step into her new role as operations manager at Project SHARE as we bid a fond farewell to Carrie Zeffiro

On June 30, 2021, Carrie Zeffiro will join her husband and set off into a life of well-deserved retirement. You may know Carrie from the many hats she wears volunteering for organizations across Niagara. Carrie is a Rotarian with the Rotary Club of Niagara Falls Sunrise, sits on various boards and committees, hosts the What’s New show on YourTV Niagara and has been the annual co-host of Project SHARE’s BCM Insurance Good News Breakfast broadcast. Carrie started her long and successful career in fundraising right here at Project SHARE in 1996. As she entered a semi-retirement phase, she came back to her roots and took on the part-time role of Operations Manager.
Carrie shares “I have often told people that working at Project SHARE changes you.  I learned about compassion and how grateful people are when you help them.  I love the commitment of the staff.  The team really cares about the community. I have always loved the Christmas program and I will miss being involved.  There is so much pressure on parents to make sure their children have a great Christmas, and without the support of our community, this would not happen.”
In her retirement, she is looking forward to golfing, gardening, and spending time with her husband, Angelo who is also retiring this month from a long career in teaching.
Interestingly, Carrie and Jo worked together at Project SHARE more than 20 years ago, each leaving and returning to continue serving their community.
Jo Low is well known in our Project SHARE community. She joined our organization first as a volunteer in 1991 and became a member of our client services staff shortly after. Jo created our community garden program which under her leadership has grown to 3 sites with more than 160 garden plots that provide fresh, organic fruits and vegetables to our community, along with educational programming on growing, cooking and preserving fresh food.Jo will take on the Operations Manager role starting July 1, 2021, and will continue to manage our Volunteer Program.
“I first became involved with Project SHARE as a volunteer in 1991. As Project SHARE has expanded programs to meet the evolving needs of our community, my role has changed too. I am very excited to work with our dynamic team to continue to address and advocate for food security in Niagara Falls,” says Jo.
Jo’s tenure with Project SHARE, knowledge of the issues of food security and passion for helping our community will be a great asset to this leadership role.
Carrie tells us that she will continue to volunteer throughout the community and since Jo and Carrie have both left and returned at one time or another, it seems all roads lead back to Project SHARE! So with that in mind, we will keep our fingers crossed that means we haven’t seen the last of the incredible impact Carrie has made on our organization. We wish her all the best on a happy and healthy retirement time of life, we also hope to see her soon and often.
Please join us in thanking Carrie for her service to our agency and welcoming Jo Low to her new role as Operations Manager!
